The LaRue County Herald News, located in Hodgenville, Ky., is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of editor. The position of editor will report directly to the Publisher. This position is responsible for all aspects of news gathering, reporting, feature writing, and photography for the newspaper. This is an exempt position which requires evening and some weekend work.

The successful applicant will be a multi-talented writer, photographer and paginator/page designer. The applicant must be dedicated to excelling at local coverage, identifying and producing stories and coordinating and producing the weekly paper and special sections.

The LaRue County Herald News is an award-winning newspaper with a circulation of 3,200 and publishes weekly on Wednesdays.   • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field is desired
  • Prior experience in the newspaper business preferred
  • Understanding of journalistic ethics and legal/libel knowledge
  • Ability to produce desired business results with minimal supervision
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use electronic page design applications, including Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Competency in AP style with good grammar, spelling and punctuation skills required
  • Leadership skills to successfully coach and mentor editorial team
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends to cover events
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver'?s license is required

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for day-to-day editorial operations of the newspaper
  • Develop and carry out plans for editorial, opinion pages, special sections and website content
  • Actively participate in community functions/events and maintain an open door to the community of readers and non-readers about newspaper coverage
  • Supervise the work flow and edit stories written by the part-time reporter and correspondent writers
  • Meet printing plant deadlines on weekly basis and for special publications
